EDITING FOR STYLE

Clarity
The question, "Does each sentence provide only as much information as readers are able to process easily?" helped me to organize my sentence structure in a way that was easy to understand.

Here is an example of a step from my first draft:
Locate your saved image from your folders and click on the title of saved image, highlighting the row.  See Figure 2.0.

Here is the revised version:
Locate the title of your image and click on it, highlighting the row.  See Figure 1.1.

Conciseness
After reviewing each strategy in this category, I checked for the use of excessive prepositions, clutter words, needless qualifiers and unnecessary weak verbs. Most of my sentences started out with action verbs and did not need to be converted.

Fluency
I focused on "Are sentences varied in construction and length?" for this category and noticed my sense structure is longer when describing the reason for the instructions, and shorter within the actual steps.  Here is an example.

(Longer explanation) You can easily change the color or brightness of your image by editing it. This can help make a picture more clear and vibrant. Here are instructions for how to use the editing tools, “refine” and “effects” to make these changes.

(Shorter steps) How to refine an image:
  1. Locate the box on the left of the page that reads refine. See Figure 2.0
  2. Click on the refine box, then the color box. See Figure 2.0

Word Choice
"Have I reviewed spelling, grammar, and word choice to be sure spell check or autocorrect didn't insert any errors?"

I enjoy proofreading and made sure to check spelling and grammar.  I also reviewed my document focusing on word choice and made sure I had simple and familiar wording (p. 226) such as "click," "locate" and "use."

Tone
Is the level of formality what the intended audience would expect?

My document includes a mostly formal tone; however, there are areas that include the word "you" and "your" to place emphasis on the user showing the user that they have the ability to make these changes.

For example, "Cropping an image allows you to resize your image by removing the outer edges of a photo."
