I began my research by typing "how to use pixlr" in to Google. The first link available was, How to Use the Pixlr Online Image Editor, on the wikiHow website. I decided to read through the instructions and follow along, but after attempting the first step, I realized I had to update my Flash Player so that led me to a new set of instructions. When I went back to the How To Pixlr instructions, the second step stated, "Select an Image Option when prompted. You can create an image from scratch, open an image from your computer, or even use an image you've found online." This sounds simple enough; however, when I clicked on Create a New Image, it led me to a blank canvas to create an image, and I had to search around the site to learn how to upload an image from my computer. Once I figured out who to upload an image, I practiced using some of the tools, like paint bucket to change the colors of the image. Throughout this process, I learned that I need to start from the basics and use detailed, simple instructions for each task that I want to complete.
I also researched some videos and tutorials on youtube by typing, "Pixlr" into the search engine, which was too broad and provided me with many pixlr videos but not instructions. I edited my search to include "How to Pixlr" and found a useful video, titled "Beginner's Pixlr Tutoiral- Basics." This tutorial was 20 minutes long, but very helpful. The youtube video was a step-by-step tutorial of editing a personal photograph. I particular paid attention to the History toolbar, where you can go back a step if you made a mistake or want to try something different. This will be useful for me in the future with editing some of my family photos, which is something I try to do on iPhoto at times, but I am excited to use pixlr editor in the future.
