DD4HW4 P#1 Usability

  • I shared my instructions with my sister.  She came to my house today and used my computer to see if she could follow the steps.  The following were results from TC's Checklist: Usability and my reflection on the changes I will need to make.

Content:
  • The level of technicality is not appropriate for the audience.  Feedback from my sister and classmates stated I am assuming too much pre-knowledge from the audience.
  • Key terms are not clearly defined, so I plan on clearly defining key terms.
  • I plan on adding a brief description of what pixlr is.
  • I plan on adding introductions to each set of instructions explaining what and why opening, editing, and cropping an image is important, as well as adding a border.
Organization:
  • The structure of the document is good.
  • Headings are included and bolded and visuals are easy to locate; however they are small and difficult to read. I plan on making my visuals larger so the print is easier to read.
Style:
  • Each sentence is understandable, but more visuals would help.
  • Rich information is expressed in fewest words possible, but maybe too few words. I plan on adding more instructions.
  • Tone is appropriate for the audience, again, more information is needed. I plan on simplifying my instructions by adding more instructions, but keeping them short and concise, as they are.
Page Design:
  • The layout is good, but the visuals and content need more work. I plan on editing my document to ensure it is more user-friendly.

Ethical, Legal, and Cultural Considerations:
  • This document reflects sound ethical judgement and complies with copyright law and other legal standards.  In order to respect readers' cultural diversity, it would be helpful to produce this document in other languages, as well; however, for this project it will remain in English.
Some additional changes I will make include adding visuals on my Editing and Cropping instructions, moving the placement of instructions and visuals on other instructions, explaining what refining and effect are, and rewording some of my instructions on the Cropping instructions.
